The short answer?  Yes.

98.3% of Outdoor Pursuits trip participants this past fall reported that participating in OP trips helped improve their physical wellbeing.

Surprised?  We weren’t.

Outdoor adventure sports can put your gym hours to the test! Want to boost your cardio?  Try mountain biking or trail running.  Looking to improve your strength and endurance?  Go rock climbing, kayaking, or hiking.  Need more balance and flexibility?  Check out slacklining or stand-up-paddle-board yoga.  Just about anything you can train in a gym, you can build on outside.

At Outdoor Pursuits we offer over 30 trips each semester ranging from free Friday climbing trips to Pilot Mountain, quick day hikes to Hanging Rock, weekend backpacking trips to Pisgah National Forest, and week-long expeditions to Utah and Costa Rica. All of our trips (see the full schedule here) are open to beginners, with no experience necessary.  So if you haven’t spent much time outside, or if it’s been a while since you’ve hit the gym, no worries!  Our trips are for you.

Don’t have time to get off campus each week?  No problem.

For an outdoor-inspired workout, come visit us at the climbing wall. It’s open for bouldering anytime Reynolds Gym is open, and we have staff there to help from 2pm to 8pm Monday through Thursday, and 2pm to 6pm on Fridays.  If you’ve never climbed before, don’t worry!  We’ve got all the equipment you need (for free) and a highly trained staff and welcoming community to help show you the ropes.

All boasting aside, OP is building a strong community of outdoor enthusiasts and first-time adventurers. 100% of our participants say that OP is how they’ve made new connections on campus and 98% say that it helped them relieve stress from classes.
